A new year and a new decade - wow - the age thing is definitely becoming an issue for some of us! Combine that with the still struggling economy and you have at least two good reasons to want to escape. Pantone, known for their scientific research on color, have named turquoise the color of the year for 2010 for precisely that reason: it brings to mind, for most of us, escape - particularly escape to some island in paradise. And in this issue, we’re bringing you so many beautiful images and product ideas, that you’ll soon be breaking away to a whole different level of décor! In this issue: 2. Our New Blog 4. Home Staging Article of the Month 5. Where to Find and Connect With Us We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season. We were engaged in a number of rewarding and exciting projects.
We were also featured on Interior Decorating Buzz on December 11th, 2009. On January 22nd, we attended a lecture by Leatrice Eiseman at the fabulous Seattle Design Center. Leatrice (Lee) Eiseman has written seven books on color. She is the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute (yes, the same people who named Turquoise the color of the year for 2010), the Director of the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training and a color/design consultant to many industries. Fortune Magazine has named her as one of the 10 top decision makers for her work in color and she is widely quoted in the media. Lee actually lives on Bainbridge Island. Needless to say, Lee’s presentation was very informative, interesting, and – of-course – colorful! Go here to read more about Leatrice Eiseman. January also marked the launch of our new BLOG. Do visit us there, we would love to receive your comments, questions, and topic suggestions. We have decided to adopt a theme for 2010: color. Every month, we will be concentrating on bringing you ideas and examples of decorating with a particular color. For January, in light of the buzz surrounding turquoise at the moment, we’ve decided to go with our signature color - because turquoise won’t give you the blues! See featured highlights of this month’s theme below. For February, we’ll be blogging about decorating in red. Speaking of red, if you’re thinking about any kind of decorating or home staging service, look out for our Valentine’s Special on HelpHive.com - we’re offering 20% off of any service until the end of February! And if you’re looking for the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to browse the one-of-a-kind glass creations of our featured artist, Yafit Haba. If your house is on the market, you’ll want to read our article on Home Staging by Bill Shue, President of RealtyU and the Staging Specialist Council. Chances to win something this month include our Decoration Interrogation section below where we answer another reader’s decorating dilemma - if your question is chosen, you could win a $25 Target gift card; as well as our January Trivia Challenge - enter for a chance to win a $10 Starbucks gift card. We are active on many social and business networking sites, and we’re listed as a resource on many more. See the list here, and choose the forum on which you’d like to connect with us.
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy 2010! |

This month’s decoration interrogation:
I am in the process of updating my living room. I had thought that a slipcover and new pillows would change the look of my old sofa - and it did wonders - however, I realized that what I really disliked about it is the legs. Is there any way to switch them? Melissa Gilbert, Seattle |

January Trivia Challenge

Why Sellers MUST Hire a Staging Professional - by Bill Shue, President of RealtyU & The Staging Specialist Council
The National Association of Realtors® recently announced that property inventories are at an all time high. Gone are the days when you only had to sell the benefits of your house … now buyers have tons of choices. Today, competition is stiff and sellers must be prepared to present their home in the best possible light.
Home Staging Is a Trend That Is Becoming A Standard In Real Estate.
Each and every home presents an opportunity for Staging. Curb Appeal is only the initial view, but there is so much more needed to create the “wow” factor. Very few buyers will make an offer on a house that doesn’t get them excited.
Staging is a crucially important step needed to get a buyer interested in a house because it allows them to visualize themselves living in the property. Staging showcases the house in the best possible light. After all, we never get a second chance to create a great first impression so it is imperative that the house is “dressed to impress.” |

Highlights from January’s Theme: Turquoise
As we mentioned above, our theme for 2010 is color. More specifically, we decided to jump start the year by choosing turquoise for January - not just because it’s our name, but also because it has been named color of the year by Pantone.
You may know that we also launched our new blog in January, so we’ve been highlighting fab finds in turquoise all month. In this issue of the e-zine, we’re going to bring you the best of what we found this month. |
